Overview
Our History - Salter Pilon Architecture Inc. operates its office in Barrie and has roots which extend back to 1960. The vast majority of the firm's work over that lengthy history has been in the institutional field with projects ranging in size from $100,000 to over $200 Million.
Our People - Salter Pilon have an exceptional staff of 20 people with an average staff tenure with the firm in excess of 17 years. We demonstrate a stability of staff which is most uncharacteristic in the profession. One member of the staff has more than 40 years with the firm, four have more than 20 years of tenure. This significantly contributes to our ability to put projects together thoroughly and very responsively. The knowledge of this resource pool can be drawn on for additional support at any time.
Our Reputation - We have an earned reputation for technical excellence and for the quality of our working drawings and specifications.
Our Performance - We take pride, not in a few carefully selected projects, but rather in a consistent record of budget control with all of our projects. Salter pilon has met or bettered the established budgets on the majority of its work. Our cost control methodology is a combination of our experience and also our attitude. Both are essential. A project is not a monolith but rather a series of components. Breaking a task into logically connected and sequential "bite size chunks" with prescribed milestone measurements is essential for success.
Our Approach - clients in most cases have developed standards, procedures and attitudes which are quite specific to their needs. We understand our role and while we bring our skill and experience to a project, we must do so within the framework established by the client. We believe that we are good listeners and good communicators and we bring that approach to all of our work.
Our Service - We believe that project success can only be achieved with constant management, a management process which is based upon client expectations, our experience and an attitude that good school buildings only happen as the result of carefully managed teamwork. In our management role we oversee the execution of the work and the coordination required to ensure a seamless process for the entire project, ensuring that all of the deliverables are provided in complete compliance with the project schedule, and that the project budget is continuously monitored and maintained.
Our Clients - We are fortunate to have many repeat clients and in one instance, we have been involved in 46 projects for one District School Board since 1978.
Our Commitment - Our firm is large enough to deal with major project workloads and tight schedules. However, we are small enough to be able to respond quickly and enthusiastically to carry out smaller projects with the same commitment that we apply to larger work. We begin with simple, straightforward plan solutions which provide clear orientation and a logical hierarchy of spaces. We compliment and enhance that solution with a simple and appropriate palette of materials, textures and colours reinforced with carefully executed details. We believe strongly in the need for technical proficiency and we apply sound building science practice to our work. We exercise a strict and continuous cost consciousness and cost control to ensure that budgets are met and value achieved.
