Grand Opening Held for GBGH Emergency Department

Grand Opening Held for GBGH Emergency Department

Salter Pilon Architecture is pleased to announce that Phase 1 of the Emergency Department Expansion, at the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), took place on June 19, 2014.  Various dignitaries were on hand including GBGH president and CEO Karen McGrath who had earlier stated in a press release, “Everyone at the hospital and in the communities we serve has been anxiously waiting for this day; many years of planning and fundraising have gone into making this happen; it is truly a community celebration.”

With this first phase now complete, the hospital expansion will now focus on Phase 2 and 3 which will include the addition of a four vehicle ambulance bay and renovations to the existing building.  The altered layout will include an expanded triage waiting area with a child play area, a “see and treat” zone, an observation unit plus 10 additional treatment rooms to compliment the phase one acute care area.  A submission for Phase 2 and 3 was made to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and we are currently awaiting approval in order to proceed.

Salter Pilon Architecture is proud to be a part of the expansion of this community-centred healthcare facility that will serve the residents of Midland for years to come.
