Grand Opening Held for Georgian Village

Grand Opening Held for Georgian Village

Salter Pilon Architecture is pleased to announce that the grand opening for Georgian Village took place on Thursday November 21st.  There was a large public turnout for the event including Hon. Mario Sergio (Minister Responsible for Seniors Affairs), Simcoe County Warden Cal Patterson and Jane Sinclair, General Manager of Health and Emergency Services, County of Simcoe.

Georgian Village is a new 310,000 square foot not-for-profit housing community that sets a new standard for seniors housing and care in Ontario.

“We are here today to celebrate this extraordinary accomplishment that will meet the needs of our seniors for generations to come. We are deeply grateful for all the support we have received from our partners, community and donors,” said Warden Cal Patterson.

Georgian Village offers five different types of housing models that range from completely independent living to full service requirements.  These models include a 143 bed  fully accredited long-term care home, 40 Affordable housing suites, 42 Assisted living units, 40 Life-lease apartment suites and 17 Life-lease garden homes.

“Georgian Village is our response to growing demand for quality retirement living space,” said Jane Sinclair. “This innovative age-in-place model is the future of housing and services for seniors and provides them with access to a continuum of care and housing options on one campus. It’s a people-first approach—allowing seniors to stay close to friends and family as they age.”

During his speech Mario Sergio stated that “Georgian Village has been designed to keep seniors healthy, active and engaged in the community.”  This can be seen in the facility’s community centre, better known as the Rendezvous.  This gathering spot provides a variety of social and recreational opportunities along with services geared towards seniors.  Both residents and the community can access the Adult Day Care Centre, Village Café, pharmacy, hearing aid clinic, wellness centre with an on-site physician,  worship centre, library resource centre and greenhouse/garden area.

Spanning over a 20 acre site, Georgian Village has been designed as a campus or ‘community within a community’, replacing the Georgian Manor facility which Salter Pilon also designed in 1985.  Together with a community of partners, we have created a new outstanding model which raises the bar for seniors care in Ontario.
