Academic

Over our history, school buildings have been a predominant component. We have been involved with the design of over 550 educational facilities, encompassing elementary, secondary and post secondary buildings.

In the last five years alone, we have worked on just over 30 projects which were a mix of alteration/addition and green field construction.. With each project comes a unique set of requirements and specific project issues. We pride ourselves on our ability to listen to the specific needs of each client, and arrive at a specifically unique design solution, tailored to a specific need.

We have worked continually through the years with over fourteen school boards throughout the province on Ontario having completed multiple projects with each. We believe that our repeat business, with these boards, attests to the quality of our designs and the strength of our contract administration team in being able to provide complete satisfaction to these clients both in budget and in post-occupancy.

Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic School

Richmond Hill

This 608 pupil school, situated on a 5.94 acre site, posed numerous challenges along the way. After closing tenders successfully below budget on a site that proved unrealizable for the Board, we worked closely with Board staff to quickly redesign the site servicing, grading and other site specific issues related to a new site on Redstone Road site in Richmond Hill to have the project re-tendered 4 weeks later. To further complicate matters, a four classroom addition was introduced to the project after tender close, increasing the cost by $600,000 and adding further pressures to the already extremely tight construction schedule. In a coordinated effort with the contractor and the Board, we were able to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth construction implementation approach that kept us on track to successfully deliver the project with a final cost of $6.24 million. The design of this 58,000 square foot school included a single gym, a library resource centre complete with 2 computer labs and a 'Reading Recovery' room treated for sound attenuation. A separate viewing room was provided for viewing students through one-way glass.
