This unique project combined the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland & Clarington Catholic District School Board's education centre offices, plant service department and a new 790- pupil secondary school under one roof. This mixed-use program was designed to take advantage of an existing 86,300 square foot office/warehouse building, which saved the board in excess of $3 million, when compared to the cost of new construction for the three components. The school design included teaching areas for theatre arts, instrumental music, science labs, computer labs, a production studio & multi-media room, manufacturing and construction tech and a 24,800 square foot addition for a gymnasium.
The Board then approached us in 2009 to design a 43,000 square foot addition and another 20,000 square feet of alterations to the school to address the expanding population of the school. The addition includes 14 classrooms, a new general office area, teaching areas for cosmetology, sewing/fashion and automotive technology, a new library resource centre. A green roof was also constructed over a portion of the new building.
