The Georgian Village campus in Penetanguishene continues to evolve as a leading model for community-based long-term care and seniors’ living. Originally completed by Salter Pilon Architecture in 2013, the 65-million-dollar campus has grown through a series of targeted upgrades, the most recent being the addition of 16 new long-term care beds. This expansion enhances resident home areas while maintaining full operations for staff and residents throughout construction.

The project includes a three-storey vertical addition to Block C and a single-storey expansion to Block D, designed to extend four existing resident home areas into modern 16-bed clusters. The addition aligns with Ministry of Long-Term Care standards and integrates seamlessly with the existing facility’s structure and systems. The design reinforces Georgian Village’s residential character, emphasizing comfort, accessibility, and a sense of community connection.

Delivered through a CCDC 5B Construction Management model, the project benefited from early trade collaboration and phased tendering, ensuring efficiency and value in a dynamic construction market. This approach enabled early site works, coordinated tie-ins to building systems, and uninterrupted service to the residents. Rigorous attention to infection prevention and control measures guided every step, supporting the County’s high standards for health and safety in active long-term care settings.

The Georgian Village 16-bed addition extends the legacy of a campus designed to grow with its community. It strengthens the continuum of care, improves quality of life for residents, and reaffirms the County of Simcoe’s commitment to delivering resilient, person-centred environments for seniors across the region.
