Long regarded as the recreational heart of Kirkland Lake, the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex has been revitalized through an aquatic expansion that renews its role as a hub for health, wellness, and connection. The project responds to growing community demand for accessible recreation and modern aquatic programming—ensuring that residents of all ages have a space to learn, train, and thrive year-round.
The expansion replaces aging infrastructure with a regulation-sized pool designed for flexibility and inclusion. Shallow areas support instruction and therapy, while designated lanes accommodate fitness and competitive training. New universal change rooms, spectator seating, and accessible amenities enhance user comfort and safety. Energy-efficient systems and durable finishes contribute to sustainable operations, lowering long-term costs and improving performance.
Integrated seamlessly with the existing arena, fitness, and community spaces, the addition supports multi-activity events and strengthens operational efficiency through shared infrastructure. Delivered in collaboration with Monteith Construction under a CCDC 5B framework, the project benefited from early contractor engagement, real-time cost feedback, and precise coordination within an active facility.
Through extensive consultation with municipal staff, aquatic user groups, and residents, the design reflects the community’s aspirations for a facility that serves both recreation and rehabilitation needs. Today, the expanded Joe Mavrinac Community Complex stands as a renewed focal point for civic life—celebrating the spirit, resilience, and pride of Kirkland Lake.
